What You Need to Know Before Buying an Entertainment System
The holidays are a great time to purchase a new entertainment system. A downside to this is that it is all too easy to be easily seduced into purchasing a flat screen television that does not fit the space available or forgetting you need a multimedia stand to hold it. If this is not bad enough, some stands require quite a bit of assembly and manufacturers do not always make this so clear. Before buying, always make sure you measure first and beware of purchasing any set on a whim. That set may seem great in the store but your house will probably look ridiculous if the first thing you see is a large television in a small space as soon as you walk in the door.
How to Measure Flat Screen Televisions
Another common mistake people often make is measuring televisions incorrectly. If you see a TV at another residence and think that size would not be too much for your space be sure to measure the screen diagonally and not horizontally or you will find the matching size in the store is actually smaller than what you expected because it was measured differently. Figure 1.1 shows how to measure a flat screen TV the right way.
